"Forward"
A translation of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson's
"Fremad"
Original: Here

”Forward, forward!”
was the fathers’ cry at stake.
“Forward, forward!”
also we today it take!
For that what hearts ignites and nature loves,
for that man also whistle blows
and forward goes.

“Forward, forward!”
everyone addressed as some.
“Forward, forward!”
freedom must forever come.
Though tried in doubts and losses be, it may,
but who will count the failing fray
on justice day?

“Forward, forward!”
everyone adjoined by faith.
“Forward, forward!”
everyone in fathers’ gate.
The Nordic treasures, hidden in the hill,
must be inquired, dug out, still,
be by the thrill.
